THE PLANT WAS SCHEDULED FOR SHUTDOWN BEGINNING FRIDAY, JUNE 19, 1964 TO BEGIN RETOOLING FOR MUSTANG PRODUCTION. MUSTANG PRODUCTION BEGAN AT THE PLANT ON MONDAY, JULY 13, 1964. IT IS BELIEVED BY MOST MUSTANG ENTHUSIASTS THAT THE '64 1/2 RUN ENDED ON JULY 31, 1964, MAKING THE SAN JOSE MUSTANGS ONE OF THE SHORTEST PRODUCTION RUNS IN HISTORY. BELIEVED TO BE THE ONLY PACE CAR STILL SPORTING THE ORIGINAL INDY 500 DECALS AND STRIPES. DOCUMENTED IN THE PACE CAR REGISTRY. THIS GEM WAS DISCOVERED UNMOLESTED IN ORIGINAL CONDITION IN A BUILDING.
